All newly registered vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tons must be equipped with 2nd generation smart tachographs.

The old analog/digital tachographs must be replaced in all vehicles in cross-border traffic with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tons, and a 1st generation smart tachograph must be upgraded.
